We invite you to Discover Applied Health Sciences on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Huff Hall from 9am to noon! Anyone is welcome to attend!

Come meet faculty in the field and hear from students who are pursuing career paths in health and wellness, medicine, physical therapy, speech language pathology, audiology, event planning, sport management, and sport marketing. You can even check out our clubs and see what they have to offer!

Community Health (9:30am to noon)

We have set up Information Stations for you to visit:

  • Experience Community Health through our current students. We will have students who are doing internships, traveling abroad, volunteering, in registered student organizations, and are pre-health.
  • Life After Community Health will allow you to talk to students who are going to graduate school or who already have jobs for after graduation. Research Teams will be set up to show you some of the initiative work our students and professors are doing in their field of study. Information regarding faculty and their research areas will be provided.
  • HIGHLIGHT:  Illini Service Dogs
    Mobilizing the world, four paws at a time.

  • Meet-and-greet with current faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
  • Get engaged with ongoing projects from department research groups and laboratories.
  • Explore opportunities to get involved with the department outside of the classroom.
  • Visit with department academic advisors.

Schedule

Prior to 9 am:

  • Beginning at 8 a.m.: Student ambassadors greet students and families at entrances in Huff Hall and direct visitors to Huff Hall Gym and Café
  • Students and families sign in and receive agenda, map, and instructions for RSO (Registered Student Organizations) activity

9:00 - 9:05 am: Huff Hall Gym

  • Brief introduction from Dean Adams with overview for day

9:05 - 11:00 am:

  • RSO meet and greet/activity in gym
  • Give sticker and notecard at welcome table on north side of gym for those who complete RSO activity

9:30 am to noon:

  • Students and families visit departmental activities based on their preferences
  • College presentation with Dean Adams and Patty Hudek -given every 30 minutes (first presentation at 9:30 a.m., last presentation begins at 11 a.m.):

While you’re here, check out our career stops! Meet an EMT at the pediatric ambulance stationed in the half circle drive on Fourth St., and play a game and spin the prize wheel with the Urbana Park District in the two rental spots in the back Huff Hall parking lot!

 

Speech and Hearing Science - SHS (9:30 - 11:45am)

  1. Undergraduate Information: Come learn about our SHS undergrad major and concentrations. Meet faculty, the head of the department, the undergraduate advisor and the director of undergraduate studies.
  2. Graduate Information: Come learn about our graduate programs – Master’s in Speech Language Pathology, Doctor of Audiology, and Doctor of Philosophy. Meet clinical instructors and the director of graduate studies.
