The James Scholar Program
The James Scholar Program, named for the fourth president of the University of Illinois,
Edmund J. James, is the honors program within the College of Applied Health Sciences. The
program recognizes undergraduates who have achieved academic excellence and provides unique
learning opportunities. The benefits of being part of the James Scholar Program include:

All AHS students are given information about the James Scholar Program and requirements at the
beginning of each semester. If you meet the requirements and would like to confirm your intent to
participate
use the self-nomination form. If you are a returning student
fill out the
self-nomination update form. Self-nominations must be submitted by the first Wednesday in October
and the first Wednesday in March.
In addition to the James Scholar Self-Nomination form, students must submit an
Honors Credit Learning Agreement (HCLA), available in 110 Huff Hall,
each semester. The HCLA outlines what you plan on doing during the semester for your honors
requirement. You must complete the form with your faculty sponsor and return it to 110 Huff
Hall by the first Wednesday in October and the first Wednesday in March.
NOTE: Juniors and seniors pursuing the leadership option also need to complete the HCLA which
should be signed by your Leadership Coach.
Getting Started
Initial participation in the program varies depending on your year in school, transfer status,
or previous involvement in the James Scholar program at UIUC.
