Board of Visitors Holds Inaugural Meeting
The College of Applied Health Sciences held the first meeting of its newly created Board of Visitors in October. The board, which includes alumni, students, and business leaders, has been charged with supporting the mission of AHS to improve the quality of life across the lifespan through research, education, and public engagement.
During the meeting, board members learned more about the college’s mission and vision for the future, as well as its goals for the recently initiated capital campaign, With I. Members were given an overview of the five degree programs within AHS (community health, interdisciplinary health sciences, kinesiology, speech and hearing science, and recreation, sport, and tourism), the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services, the Chez Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education, and the Mannie L. Jackson Illinois Academic Enrichment and Leadership Program, or I-LEAP.
The Board of Visitors will fulfill its charge through a variety of activities, including: providing feedback on the effectiveness of existing college initiatives; providing advice to the dean on strengthening the college’s national and international reputation; supporting AHS in securing, broadening, and enhancing professional opportunities for students and alumni; serving as a liaison between AHS and the community; and working with the dean to raise funds for critical initiatives.
