AHS Students Win Awards at Undergraduate Research Symposium

Kinesiology student Amber Lopez won an award for her presentation in the Undergraduate Research Symposium

In April 2008, the first Undergraduate Research Symposium took place on the Urbana-Champaign campus. More than 160 students showcased their research, 19 of them from the College of Applied Health Sciences. Now the signature event of Undergraduate Research Week, this year’s Undergraduate Research Symposium attracted more than 450 participants, 75 of them from AHS.

This year’s symposium took place online and included both oral and poster presentations. Three AHS students received awards from the Office of Undergraduate Research for their presentations.

In the category Health and Wellness: Poster Presentation:
Speech and Hearing Science junior Kelin Mendoza was a member of a team that won an award for their presentation titled “It Takes Two: Analyzing the Association Between Maternal Depression and Childhood Obesity. The other team members were Jennifer Long, a senior in Human Development and Family Studies, and Yoselin Castillo, a junior in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Jessica Philipp, a senior in Speech and Hearing Science, received an award for her presentation titled “It’s Like Face-to-Face Talking: Thematic Analysis of the Feasibility of a Video Chat Social Engagement Intervention for Older Adults With and Without MCI.”

In the category Health and Wellness: Oral Presentation
Kinesiology senior Amber Lopez received an award for her presentation titled “Measles Reprogramming Vectors with Improved Efficiency and Safety for Regenerative Medicine.”
