Dr. Martenies' research explores the ways in which environmental exposures, including air pollutants, features of the built environment, and others independently and jointly influence childhood health outcomes. Her work emphasizes the interactions between environmental and social determinants of health. She is interested in a number of critical environments in which children spend their time, including homes, schools, and childcare spaces. She earned an MPH in Environmental Health Science and Policy from the George Washington University in 2014 and a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Michigan in 2017. Before joining the department of Health and Kinesiology at Illinois, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in environmental epidemiology at Colorado State University.
