Past President, Carle Foundation Hospital

Lynne C. Barnes is past president of Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana having retired in February of 2022. Since 1977, Barnes has led a variety of departments and Carle owned businesses. She collaborated with physician leaders to oversee hospital physicians including emergency physicians, adult hospitalists, pediatric hospitalists, adult and pediatric critical care physicians, obstetrics hospitalists, and neonatologists.  

Since 2007, Barnes has served as a part-time faculty member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was recently hired as Program Director and Clinical Professor for the University’s Master of Healthcare Administration Program. Barnes also currently serves as a Certified Professional Coach for Carle Health.   

Barnes earned a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy is from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  

Barnes is an active community leader as well, including serving as the Chair of the Stephen’s Family YMCA board of directors, the Visit Champaign County Foundation board chair, a University of Illinois Rebounders board member and a member of the Champaign-Urbana Christian Church local leadership team.

Barnes’ past community leadership roles have included the American College of Healthcare Executives Regent, Chapter President, Fellow, and Diplomat; Promise Health Care board member and chairperson; United Way of Champaign County board member, campaign Co-Chair, and board chair; Champaign County Economic Development Corporation vice chairperson and chairperson; Urbana City Council Member, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities Surveyor; and City of Urbana Comprehensive Steering Committee. Barnes is an Athena Award recipient and Leadership Illinois graduate.
