The College of Applied Health Sciences has a busy fall semester planned, with events that celebrate alumni, address serious health concerns, and provide students with opportunities to connect with professionals in the recreation, sport, and tourism industries.

October 18, 2019
Distinguished Alumni and Harold Scharper Award Ceremony
2001 Khan Annex, Huff Hall
3:00 p.m.

This year, we honor John Consalvi, alumnus of the Department of Speech and Hearing Science, with the AHS Distinguished Alumni Award. John is the CEO and founder of Spedhunters LLC, a nationwide platform for speech-language clinicians, special educators, parents, and administrators who share a passion for improving services to special needs students.

Dr. Pat Malik will receive the 2019 Harold Scharper Award. Dr. Malik is an alumna of the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism and former director of the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services. Before serving as director of DRES, she was the director of Beckwith Residential Support Services and assistant director of non-academic support services at DRES.

Mottier Family Professor Investiture
Alice Campbell Alumni Center Ballroom
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Join us as we celebrate the achievements of Dr. Jeff Woods, the first Mottier Family Professor in the College of Applied Health Sciences. Dr. Woods is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, associate dean for research, and director of the Center on Health, Aging, and Disability. The professorship was made possible through an estate gift of Audrey Kramer Mottier, who completed her degree in Physical Education in 1948.

Making the Invisible Visible: A Dialogue on Veteran Traumatic Brain Injury

The Chez Veterans Center is collaborating with the College of Applied Health Sciences, Carle Foundation Hospital, the University of Illinois Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute, and the University of Illinois Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology to address issues related to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
