Faculty Profile

Markisha Woodson earned her BS, MSPH, and Ph.D. in Community Health from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and her MBA from Lewis University. While at the University of Illinois, Woodson served as a teaching assistant in community health, a graduate counselor with the Office of Minority Student Affairs, a research assistant, and a graduate assistant with Special Populations at McKinley Health Center. Prior to becoming an instructor with KCH, Woodson worked in student wellness. Woodson worked closely with special student populations such as freshman, sororities and fraternities, student organizations, and student athletes to provide education on nutrition, stress management, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and sexual assault and consent. Woodson has also been teaching community health and healthcare management courses for 14 years at various colleges and universities. She enjoys working with students and helping them achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. Most recently, Woodson’s work has focused on addressing health disparities impacting the African American community, more specifically maternal and child health. She lives in the Chicagoland area with her husband, son, daughter, and beagle “Reeses.” In her free time, she enjoys riding bikes with her family and reading a book.
