Health Professions

Many AHS students plan to work in a health profession after graduation. Each of the health professions has its own set of requirements and necessary activities prior to application.  The AHS advisors are familiar with the requirements for the health professions and are great resources.

In addition, The Career Center offers a variety of resources that will be prove vital in preparing for one of these fields.  Here are some of the resources available to students:

I’m interested in a health profession…now what?

Here are some steps to follow to help you stay up-to-date and gain experiences:

  1. Tell your advisor your plans to pursue a health profession.
  2. Join The Career Center’s Canvas page, Pre-Health @ Illinois.
  3. Join a pre-health Registered Student Organization (RSO).
  4. Consider which ways you would like to explore your chosen profession and gain experience:
  • Informational interviews
  • Shadowing
  • RSOs
  • Part-time job
  • Volunteering
  • Research

Make an appointment with AHS Career Services to plan how you will gain experience. Services include:

  • Pre-health advising
  • Career coaching
  • Informational interview guidance
  • Planning extra-curricular experiences
  • Program searching guidance
  • Personal statement review
  • Mock interviewing
